I just can’t draw!’ There is a blank sheet of paper on the table before her and the Art teacher looks at it and says, ‘Ah, a polar bear in a sandstorm!’ The book opens with a child, Vashti, sitting in a classroom, head bent and a sorrowful expression on her face. Reynolds‘ book The Dot (Candlewick Press) is there to remind us all to “Make your mark, and see where it takes you.” What the book is about: F or anyone who has been afraid to express themselves – from a child in art class to an adult whose fear has shut down a long-held dream, Peter H. The Dot by Peter Reynolds is one book every parent and every child must read. The book had just 32 pages and it was a picture book, so it took me hardly any time to flip through it. On a recent trip to Mumbai, a friend of mine handed me this book and said that it is one book that every child and every parent must read. 6/6/2023 0 Comments The invasion peadar ó guilínSo the Grey Land gets to expand in creativity a little more, beyond the brief glimpses we see during the call.Īlso, Melanie! I honestly never expected her story to continue, but I'm glad it did. The Sídhe are in control of the land, but there are so many animals great and small that fill the land, all of them hideously twisted. We get to see more creatures in the Grey Land. More things I liked! There's more excellent creativity on display here. Second best would be Alanna Breen, who might not biologically be a mother, but damn if she isn't mom of the year. I actually wish we would have gotten more Aoife chapters. You never expect the secondary character who did next to nothing in book 1 to shine so hard in book 2! Which was totally understandable given the circumstances, but boring. I mean she literally laid in bed for a good portion of the book. She was Emma's rather despondent girlfriend. Obvs.Īoife! I didn't think about her much in the first book. Mild spoilers throughout, but anything heavy duty will be marked. The Call is a fantastic book - brutal, inventive, and exciting! I expected more of the same with the sequel The Invasion, as well as plenty of new surprises. “I hear the Sídhe have found a way in.I hear that’s what it’s about. Keck’s is only one of many voices raised against contemporary Christian sentimentality. The opening line of the Westminster Confession is now reversed, for now the chief end of God is to glorify us and to be useful to us indefinitely.ĭr. This now completely benign deity may still evoke a sense of wonder, but little awe and less mystery, and no fear of the Lord at all. In this inversion, the living God, whose biblical qualities like jealousy and wrath have been tamed, has been deprived of freedom and, having been reduced to the Great Enabler, now has little to do except warrant our causes and help us fulfill our aspirations. And ulterior motives mean manipulation, taking charge of the relationship, thereby turning the relation between Creator and creature upside down. If praise is the heart of worship, then making worship useful destroys it, because this introduces an ulterior motive for praise. What is the chief end of God? The “chief end of God is to glorify us and to be useful to us indefinitely.” This inversion of the opening line of the Westminster Confession is theologian Leander Keck’s way of illustrating a dramatic inversion of worship in much of the contemporary church. 6/5/2023 0 Comments The blade itself amazonThe blade assembly is hand wash only, but it comes off the base for fairly simple rinsing and wiping. When it comes to cleaning, the cups, lids, and rings are all dishwasher-safe. It has lots of power for crushing and pureeing, but the Nutribullet Pro 900 only has one speed setting and no real pulse mode, which means it's not great at chopping-our salsa test ended up with more of a smooth puree than a chunky dip. The motor is not meant to run for more than 60 seconds at once, but that was more than enough time to complete each of our tests. The blender couldn't be easier to use you lock a cup into the base, push, and twist. You also get two cup rings, two handled lip rings, two flip-top to-go lids, and a recipe book. This blender comes with two BPA-free 32-ounce blender cups, which are larger than most personal blender cups, but still work just fine with smaller batches, like an individual smoothie or serving of dip. No unpleasant chunks of ingredients wound up in the final product. The results were consistently textured and easy to drink both through a straw and from the side of the cup. It did a great job with pretty much every ingredient we threw at it, making short work of kale, blueberries, dates, frozen banana, and ice. With its 900-watt motor, the NutriBullet Pro 900 is ideal for someone with a small kitchen who makes a lot of soups, sauces, and smoothies. 6/5/2023 0 Comments Young mungo reviewWhen Mungo’s mother sends him on a fishing trip to a loch in Western Scotland, with two strange men behind whose drunken banter lie murky pasts, he needs to summon all his inner strength and courage to get back to a place of safety, a place where he and James might still have a future. As they begin to fall in love, they dream of escaping the grey city, and Mungo must work hard to hide his true self from all those around him, especially from his elder brother Hamish, a local gang leader with a brutal reputation to uphold.īut the threat of discovery is constant and the punishment unspeakable. They should be sworn enemies if they’re to be seen as men at all, and yet they become best friends as they find a sanctuary in the doocot that James has built for his prize racing pigeons. They are caught between two of Glasgow’s housing estates where young working-class men divide themselves along sectarian lines, and fight territorial battles for the sake of reputation. The extraordinary, powerful second novel from the Booker prizewinning author of Shuggie Bain, Young Mungo is both a vivid portrayal of working-class life and the deeply moving story of the dangerous first love of two young men: Mungo and James.īorn under different stars, Protestant Mungo and Catholic James live in a hyper-masculine world. However, this book is so dang interesting, and the art is so freaking incredible. I enjoy Critical Role, but I often don’t even identify myself as a Critter. Heck, I really got sucked in reading about the experiences the cast members besides Matt Mercer have had DMing for the show in various one-shots. Whether you want to learn how the stream got started, about the actors, about the characters, about the world of Exandria, and so much more. Each chapter is titled using a line(s) from the Critical Role theme song, which is very clever, and there’s a whole slew of information. The World of Critical Role starts with a beautiful foreward by Felicia Day, and then it goes into all the other goodies. A big thanks to Penguin Random House for sending me a copy of the book to go through. The book is written by Liz Marsham and the cast of Critical Role and is available now at your favorite retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target. Well, in the new book from Ten Speed Press and Penguin Random House, The World of Critical Role, Critters (fans of Critical Role) will be given a peek behind the curtain. It was once just a group of voice actors getting together and playing an RPG. Critical Role is possibly the most popular Dungeons & Dragons podcast/stream. |
